PLSA 6th anniversary
Victoria’s Portable Long Service Authority is celebrating its 6th anniversary while reaching a significant milestone with more than 400,000 workers now registered to receive portable long service benefits.
Under the Portable Long Service Scheme (the Scheme), Victorian workers in the community services, contract cleaning and security industries can accumulate long service benefits based on their service in the industry rather than time with a single employer.
The Scheme allows workers to accrue long service benefits even if they move between different employers in the same industry.
George Tsimbouris is one such worker. He has worked in the cleaning industry for 37 years and has been with GJK Facilities Services(opens in a new window) since 1999. George says “The Scheme is a just reward for years of loyalty and hard work by many cleaners."
In a statement, GJK Facility Services added “By supporting portable long service leave, GJK ensures that its workforce is not only valued but also empowered to build lasting careers, knowing their dedication will be acknowledged across the industry."
Maree Edwards, the Member for Bendigo West and Lisa Chesters, the Federal Member for Bendigo are both highly supportive of the Scheme and have congratulated the Authority on its management and operational readiness to process workers’ portable long service benefits in the next year.
Background
More than 3,800 employers in community services, contract cleaning and security are registered with the Authority.
